Dr Shaheen Khan is a Consultant in Palliative Medicine and Clinical Lead for Palliative Care at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. His areas of expertise include: Pain management and complex symptom control, Advance care planning, Patient safety and risk management, Postgraduate education, Service development and clinical leadership. Dr Khan provides expertise in the management of medical problems within the context of serious illness. He treats patients in a holistic manner, working closely with clinical colleagues, relatives and carers. Dr Khan supports patients with any serious illness, including cancer and other serious illnesses such as heart disease, respiratory problems, and neurological disorders. He graduated from Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ Medical School in 2003, having also been awarded a first class honours degree in BSc Neuroscience in 2000. He completed the MSc in Palliative Care from King’s College London in 2010, andin 2011 he obtained a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Leadership. Dr Khan is committed to education, and chairs the training committee for the Palliative Medicine StR training programme in London, Kent, Surrey and Sussex. He runs regular courses for staff on a range of topics including pain control, medication safety and advance care planning. He co-chairs the London Opioid Safety and Improvement Group (LOSIG) and leads on various aspects of clinical governance
